Wedding Worry #1:  You’re afraid you won’t look good on your wedding day

This worry is usually always about hair and makeup.  Because we’ve all had bad hair and makeup experiences.  The makeup’s too heavy or too plain or not the right color.  The hair is flat or too poofy or totally boring.  Things just didn’t turn out how you wanted it to.

How to get rid of this scary:  So, the easiest and best way to eradicate this fear is to do a hair and makeup trial ahead of time.  This can happen before you book someone so that you know exactly what you’re getting (which is what I recommend).  Or it can happen after you’ve booked someone, but before your wedding day.

And before you say it, yes it is an extra cost that will add to you budget.  But, trust me, it’s worth it.

This is the only way you’ll know what you’ll be getting and what you’ll look like.  And if you know what you’ll look like, that monster disappears from under your bed.

Wedding Worry #2:  You’re afraid your guests will leave early

I get it, you want your guests to stay all night, drink, dance and have a good time.  You don’t want a boring wedding.  And you don’t want everyone to leave after you cut the cake.

How to get rid of this scary:  But, here’s the truth (which will help with your worry)…You can’t totally avoid this.   There will always be people who leave early.

Think parents with kids and the older folks. They’ll leave early no matter how much fun your wedding is.  So don’t feel bad about that or worry about them.

For the rest (and also the majority) of your guests, the key to eradicating this worry is to make it fun!  Keep your wedding interesting and entertaining.  Give them a reason to stick around and hang out.  Offer dessert during dancing and pass out late night bites.  Or have a fun drink station for people to taste and explore.  Have a section for people to sit and chat but still enjoy the music.

Think about all your different guests and make it fun and entertaining for them.  Which by the way, doesn’t always mean dancing. If you’re having a non-dancing wedding, you can create another activity for people to have fun with instead.

Wedding Worry #3:  You’re afraid your photos won’t turn out well

One of the biggest regrets I always hear people talk about is photos. It’s the one thing that you keep (besides video) after the wedding. So, rightfully people are scared and worried that they won’t like them.

How to get rid of this scary: Unfortunately there is no way to completely remove the unknown with this one because every wedding is different. And every photographer is different.  But, we can give you the highest odds.

So, first, the easiest way to combat this is to start by hiring a pro. Yes, hire a professional wedding photographer.  Why?  Because they understanding weddings, they have professional gear and they know how to use it to capture the moments of a wedding.  Just having a professional will already help eliminate some of your worry.

But, not all professional photographers will be right for you.  So, you need to vet them and make sure their photography style fits with what you like and how you want your photos to look like.  And most importantly you have to make sure you like them and feel comfortable with them.

If you’re comfortable with them, you’ll be comfortable in front of the camera and your photos will turn out so much better.

Wedding Worry #4:  You’re afraid your guests will bring their kids

More and more couples are requesting adult-only weddings.  And I completely understand!  Weddings just aren’t that fun for kids (no matter what you plan for them).  And for the parents?  Also not so fun.

How to get rid of this scary:  So the truth here is that there is no way to force people not to bring their kids.  But, you can do everything in your power to make sure they understand what your wishes are.  And hopefully they’ll respect them.

How you do that is to make it both very clear and easy for them to not bring their kids.  So, first, that means making it clear on your save the date and invite who is invited and who isn’t.  Make it very obvious that their children are not invited.  For most people, this will do the trick.

But, you can also get the word out via your close family and friends.  They’ll spread the news for you to anyone who asks.

And then make it easy for them not to bring their kids by providing babysitter recommendations.  This is especially helpful for destination weddings, but even for hometown weddings.  All you have to do is put the info on your website and it will make it clear and easy for them.  Making it one less thing for you to worry about.

Wedding Worry #5:  You’re afraid something will go wrong and your wedding will be a disaster

This is a biggie and something I hear about all the time.  This might be your biggest fear, the biggest monster keeping you up at night.

How to get rid of this scary:  Ok, so time for a brutally honest truth here.  Are you ready?  Something will go wrong at your wedding.

No matter how well you plan your wedding, something will go wrong.  Trust me, I’ve been doing this for 9+ years and no wedding is ever perfect.

But here’s the best way to remove the worry, hire a wedding planner.  There are many reasons why you’d hire a wedding planner, but the biggest (to help get rid of your worry) is that the responsibility is not on you.

Your planner is responsible for planning your wedding and making sure everything goes to plan which already eliminates tons of worry.  But they’re also there so that when something does goes wrong, it’s on them to fix it.  Not you.

All of which means you don’t have to worry about it!  And that, my friend means that big scary monster completely vanishes.
