The joy of stories

I love stories.  When I was a kid I’d always have my nose in a book.  I’d even take books with me to restaurants.  I remember once my glasses were broken and I still wore them even though I looked ridiculous because I wanted to read.  Books are totally one my all time loves.

Books take you on a journey.  The adventure and the characters are so intriguing.   So much so that you can get lost in a book and forget where you are (true story, I’ve had that happen to me countless times).

There is an escapism to books that is unlike any other medium.  And not that your life is so horrible you need to escape (although sometimes it can feel that way), but it’s fun to jump into another place and time.  To jump into a situation or meet people you’ve never met before.  Your imagination gets to run wild.

I loved Roald Dahl books as a kid.  Now, I’m up for almost anything, but one of my recent favorite series is Outlander.  Total escapism fun.

So, now it’s time to go to your happy place with your favorite story.  Maybe that’s a book you always loved and you read it again or just remember it.  Maybe it’s picking up a new book since you haven’t read in a while.  Perhaps it’s just finding a time to sit down and read.  If you like to write, maybe it’s creating a new story.  Take a moment and dive into a story you enjoy.

And if you aren’t a book person, indulge in a story through another medium. You could read articles in your favorite magazine or blog.  Or listen to stories on the radio or on a podcast.  Or go watch a play or musical or binge watch a TV show.  Everyone enjoys stories, so find a story you enjoy and escape for a little bit.  It’s fun and you’ll come out feeling happy.

Tomorrow is our 5th Day of Joy and you won’t want to miss it!  Make sure you come back and please share this post with your friends!
