I was talking to my sister the other day about Thanksgiving. Now that Halloween is over, it’s coming up in just a few weeks (crazy, right?!). As we were talking, it became very evident that she was stressed out about hosting it.
She didn’t know how she was going to be able to cook and handle the kids and host. She was so overwhelmed she was considering going out to eat at a Chinese restaurant instead. I know she didn’t want that, but she didn’t know what to do.
She was miserable and it was obvious she needed help.
So, I stopped her and suggested that she didn’t have to take everything on herself. She could still have Thanksgiving but order the turkey from a market instead. The family could potluck and help cook many of the side dishes. Or some of the family could watch the kids while a few cooked together. She didn’t have to do it all by herself. We could do it together.
After we talked, she felt so much better. She realized she had other options and that she wasn’t alone. It was like a weight had been lifted off of her. It all became easier and more manageable. And Thanksgiving started to sound like fun again.

When it comes to planning your wedding, there are so many couples that end up this same situation. I know first hand, I talk to many of them. You feel overwhelmed and stressed because you don’t know how you’re going to do it all.
But, here’s the thing, you don’t have to do it all by yourself! I know your sister or your friend or your cousin planned their wedding all by themselves, but that doesn’t mean you need to. And I can bet they secretly wished they had help.
My sister knew she couldn’t do it all, but she didn’t think to ask for help. But after a quick few suggestions from me, the whole situation changed for her. Your situation can change just as easily.
You don’t have to slog through wedding planning like it’s a rite of passage. Just because it’s what is expected, doesn’t mean that it’s the right or best way to do it. There are many ways to get help and in our November Wedding Planning Challenge, I’m going to show you how.
