The 2 Types of Destination Weddings and Which is Right for You
You may be considering having a destination wedding or perhaps you’ve already decided you want a destination wedding. But, did you know that there are only really two types of destination weddings? Yup, bet that was a bit of a shocker.
But, that is actually a good thing! With only two types of destination weddings, that means you only have two options and can make a decision easily. Now, which type of destination wedding is right for you, just depends on what is important to you. And we’re going to lay out the differences between the two so you can figure out right now what kind of destination wedding you want.
Destination Wedding Type #1
The Package Wedding
The first type of destination wedding is what I like to call the package wedding. This could be a package at an all-inclusive resort or a package at a hotel or a package with a wedding planning company. These package weddings give you everything you need for your wedding. It usually includes your officiant, some personal flowers, champagne, cake and a photographer for a couple of hours. And you can usually add on dinner and music as well.
Package weddings are not super customized but are super easy. There is no thinking involved. You just pick your package and the options within it and you’re done!
Usually, package weddings are best for either very small weddings (10 people or less), elopements or couples who either don’t care about customization or just want it to be easy. You don’t have many options which is what makes it both easy and not customized.
But, if you do want a wedding that is customized, personalized and not the generic destination wedding for that area, then a package wedding is not for you.
Destination Wedding Type #2
The Customized Wedding
The second type of destination wedding is the customized wedding. Instead of a package with set items, you have tons of options. You can have your wedding at any venue (e.g. resort, private estate, museum, winery, etc…) and you can bring anything in. You have a choice of all your vendors and your design is completely up to you.
Customized weddings are not as easy because there is more to coordinate, but they’re much more reflective of you. You can create a wedding the feels like you and shares your story and personalities. You can create a wedding you love.
Usually, customized weddings are best for couples who want to create a unique wedding and one that is isn’t cookie cutter. It’s best for couples who want a wedding that is special and one of a kind.
But, if you don’t want to have to find vendors, or really plan or design your wedding, then a customized wedding is not for you.
So, which type of destination wedding is right for you? You’ll have to assess what matters to you more, having a unique wedding you love or the easiest wedding planning possible. There is no right or wrong answer, but just what is right for you. But, with only two types of destination weddings this will be the easiest choice you have to make.
