Wedding Wednesdays Q&A: Engagement Party

Wedding Wednesdays Q&A by Jamie Chang Destination Wedding Planner of Mango Muse EventsHappy hump day!  Are you ready for an all new Wedding Wednesdays Q&A?  Today we’re discussing the engagement party.

Q: I just got engaged (yay!) and my parents are throwing me an engagement party in a couple of weeks.  As people are RSVPing, we’ve had a couple of people ask if we have a registry up yet for the engagement party, and it’s honestly something we never thought of.  We thought it felt a little early to register for the wedding already, but is it necessary to have a wedding registry up before your engagement party?

Great question!  Most couples do not have a registry set up in time for their engagement party because you are right, it is early.  You aren’t thinking about gifts at this point, just enjoying being engaged and maybe just starting the process of finding a wedding planner or a venue.  So, no it’s not necessary to have a wedding registry created for your engagement party.

To be honest with you, most people don’t actually give engagement gifts anymore, because while it is a celebration its purpose is to be a get-together for people to meet each other, not as an opportunity to get gifts.  However, some people will feel the need to give a gift (these are probably the people asking you about a registry) and what I usually suggest to couples is to tell their guests that no gifts are necessary.  Because really, it isn’t necessary to have your guests get you multiple gifts for getting married.  But, if they are really adamant, have them donate to your favorite charity instead.  We shared a new online Engagement Party Wedding Planning Advice from Jamie Chang Wedding Planner of Mango Muse Events
