Those of you who follow us on social media will know that we recently created a destination wedding in Vancouver. I have to say that it was so nice getting reacquainted with the city. It has been many years since I’ve been to Vancouver, so experiencing the city and the area all over again was such a blast. And it’s such a wonderful city to get married in.
Vancouver is in the Pacific Northwest located in Canada, but very close to the US border. It’s a lovely metropolitan city right on the water where you can go from downtown to the beach to the forest all within 30 minutes or less. It’s both a bustling city and totally nature driven. If you like to bike, this is a great place to be. Vancouver has both the old and the new, art and nature and there is so much you can do! Granville island, Stanley park, beaches, museums and so much more. One of the things I really enjoyed was visiting the Vancouver library for it’s architecture and sheer size.
And we can’t talk about a destination without talking about the food, right? As with any great metropolitan city, the food is varied and delicious which always makes me happy. They do Japanese food very well (there are tons of izakayas and ramen joints), you have to get yourself some poutine and a must stop is Cafe Medina.
Perhaps the crowning glory of Vancouver is Stanley Park. A vast and beautiful park filled with trees and amazing views. The destination wedding in Vancouver that I had the pleasure of planning took place at the Teahouse in Stanley Park which gave the guests a wonderful chance to take photos and soak in such a gorgeous location.
The Teahouse is an older building with huge windows and lots of character and it’s nestled right in the park overlooking the ocean. It has a few different rooms you can rent or you can buy out the restaurant. I particularly like the conservatory room for all of its windows and trees. The Teahouse also has an outdoor lawn area perfect for a ceremony.
For this destination wedding, we ended up tenting the lawn outside (which turned out to be a life saver as it did rain a little) and held not only the ceremony outside, but the dancing as well. And man, can I say this couple picked an awesome band from Nashville that totally rocked and kept the dance floor full all night long (I have video to prove it!).
It was a super fun wedding and such a great location for a destination wedding. There are so many awesome things to love about this place because it’s so easy, approachable, open and friendly. It’s also a same sex friendly city which I’m a big fan of. With all of that at your fingertips, how can you go wrong?
