Wedding Wednesdays Q&A: Processional Song

Wedding Wednesdays Q&A by Jamie Chang Destination Wedding Planner of Mango Muse Events

It’s getting closer and closer to Christmas, can you feel it?!  On the 3rd week of Christmas, my true love sent to me…a question about the ceremony (hey that one even rhymed!):  My fiance and I are planning a destination wedding and want to keep our ceremony very simple.  As such, we aren’t having a large wedding party nor are we going to have our parents walk down the aisle.  Since I’ll only have a couple of bridesmaids walking down the aisle in front of me, I was going to use just one processional song.  My sister says that is weird, but I feel like it’s silly to have two songs that won’t get played for very long.  What do you think?

Great question!  So, the reason your sister probably thought it was weird is because traditionally, you would have your own processional song because it will make your entrance and walk special.  It is a song just for you and your father (or mother or whomever is walking you down the aisle) and many times it can also be a particularly meaningful song to you.  If that is the case, then you may not want to share the song with your bridesmaids or it just might not be as appropriate for them and having two songs makes more sense.  Additionally, having your own processional song also signifies to your guests that you are arriving.  It is a good transition from your bridal party’s processional to your own because the first song will fade out and there will be a pause before your song starts and you walk down the aisle.

Now with that being said, you know I’m all for doing things your way.  So, if you like the idea of just having one processional song, that is totally ok.  Or if you want to share a certain special song with your girls, that is ok too.  Or if you want to hear more of one song you particularly like, that is also ok.  You don’t have to have your own processional song if you don’t want to (don’t let your sister sway you), but I’ve mentioned the reasons why people choose to have one and now it’s up to you to make the decision that works for you.
