Wedding Wednesdays Q&A: What To Do With the Wedding Gifts
Happy Wednesday and welcome to a brand spanking new Wedding Wednesdays Q&A! Today we are talking about wedding gifts: I know my family and I’m expecting a lot of boxed gifts at the wedding (they like to give actual items, not money), but I have no idea what to do with them once people drop them off at the gift table. Can I just leave them there until the end of the night? Will it be safe? Or should I have someone put it away in a car or something? What do people normally do with the wedding gifts?
Great question! This is a logistics thing which many people don’t think about, but is important to plan for. So, if you have a wedding planner (which hopefully you do), they will take care of it for you. They will put the wedding gifts somewhere safe for you until the end of the night. However, if you don’t have a wedding planner, there are a few different options you can consider because you definitely don’t want to leave the wedding gifts out all night.
Some wedding venues have a safe onsite and can store your wedding gifts until the end of the evening, so it’s a good thing to ask your venue coordinator. You’ll just have to designate someone to put it in and get it out of the safe for you. This is a particularly good option if you are having your wedding at a hotel or near a hotel (that you are staying at). Sometimes hotels can hold all the gifts and sometimes just the monetary gifts. If they will only hold the monetary gifts, then you can have your designated helper put the physical gifts in your hotel room for safe keeping.
Another option is to put the wedding gifts in your getting ready room. Many wedding venues have a room onsite for the bride to get ready in before the ceremony (or at least to hang out in and hide from the wedding guests). This room is usually not accessible to guests and can even lock, which makes it a good room to use.
Now if none of the previous options are possible, then you can use a car. It’s not ideal, but as least it locks. If you must utilize this option, then I suggest only putting the boxed gifts in the trunk and having a family member hold on to all the monetary gifts. It’s safer that way just in case the car gets stolen or broken into.
