Do you remember what it was like to be a teenager? My nephew turned 13 this week and while it made me feel old, it also made me think back to what I was like at 13. I remember life being totally crazy because you are insecure but want to be cool, not sure how to act, liking boys and dealing with hormones and just trying to figure out who the heck you are. I feel like your teenager years are a lot about self-discovery which continues as you get older, but it all starts when you are a teenager.
Now don’t judge me, but I read a lot because I love stories and I totally enjoy young adult novels. I’m obviously not a young adult, but I love the passion and growth in them. Teenagers feel everything so strongly which is both a blessing and curse. They don’t think through things, but they feel and their emotions rule their world.
It brings me back to a younger time, a more carefree time. I wouldn’t go back to being a teenager, but I do think that as adults our emotions become less important and we think more. While thinking is good and smart, it’s nice to be reminded that we should also feel our way through life, not just think through it. Remember that all-consuming love or the desire for independence to the point of rebelliousness or the need to do what feels right. So, go ahead, be a teenager every now and then. It’s good for your soul.
