Wedding Wednesdays Q&A: Wedding Design Harmony

Wedding Wednesdays Q&A by Jamie Chang Destination Wedding Planner of Mango Muse Events

Q: We fell in love with a wedding venue that isn’t exactly our style, but had a good feeling about it.  Now I’m working on the wedding design and I find myself picking all these things to fit the style of the venue and I’m starting to feel lost.  Do you think we have to keep the decor in line with the venue?

Wonderful question!  So, this is the part of creating a customized wedding design that I love.  No person is just one thing, so it’s totally ok to fall in love with a wedding venue that isn’t totally and completely you.  But, the goal and hope is to create a wedding you love, one that feels like you and the design for your wedding is meant to reflect that.

You want to pick items and design your wedding to feel like you both, individually and together.  So, if your wedding venue leans one way in terms of style, don’t be afraid to bring in other elements that aren’t necessarily matchy-matchy.  You don’t have to be tied to a particular style or look just because the venue looks a certain way.

Weddings are about harmony, so think about how you want to express and share yourselves and your story with your guests and then translate that into the wedding design.  You can have a little bit of this and a little bit of that as long as you bring it all together and it makes sense for you and for the wedding experience you want to create.

If you’re having some difficulty with the design, you should consider working with a professional wedding planner and designer as they can really help with both with the process, but also with the creation and sourcing.  This will allow you to share the burden and have someone to bounce ideas off of as well. No matter what you end up doing, just don’t forget that you don’t have to be stuck within a certain style.  Be free and have fun!
