Hello everyone and welcome to this week’s Wedding Wednesdays Q&A! As always, we’re here to help you along this journey called wedding planning. This week’s question is about the first dance.
Q: My fiance and I are shy people by nature. We don’t like attention on us and are really dreading the first dance with everyone staring at us while we sway back and forth. We also aren’t dancers at all, so it’s bound to be especially awkward. Do we really have to do a first dance?
Nope, not at all! I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, your wedding is a celebration of you two, so making it personalized is key. If dancing isn’t your thing and attention isn’t your thing, you definitely don’t have to do have first dance.
This is your wedding, so don’t do something just because and definitely don’t do something you don’t want to do. Your guests won’t notice and may even thank you for it (shorter programs are always welcome). And if you’re worried about not having a dance to start off the party, don’t worry! The band or DJ can easily get the dancing started by inviting the guests onto the dance floor and playing a high energy, exciting song to get people grooving.
