Q: I’m starting to receive gifts already, should I send thank you notes now before the wedding or wait until after?

I get this question quite often from my couples as it’s an understandable unknown.  While you can do either, I usually suggest that couples send a thank you note immediately after they receive a gift.  It’s a nice gesture to the person who sent the gift and it also gives them confirmation that you received it.

Many times you’ll receive gifts early either because it’s a part of a wedding shower or just because people are starting to buy things off your registry.  Because your registry items are mailed to you, it’s nice as the giver to know that the couple received the gift they paid for.

I also think it makes your life easier after the wedding if you can get some of your thank you notes out of the way early, because no matter who you are, thank you notes aren’t the most fun and definitely take some time.  However, you can wait until after the wedding if you’d prefer.  There is nothing wrong with sending all the notes out at the same time.  So, it’s really up to you. But, if you can do them earlier, then it’s only going to be a good thing for you and for them.
