Wedding Wednesdays Q&A: Planning a Wedding 2 Years Out

Wedding Wednesdays Q&A by Jamie Chang Destination Wedding Planner of Mango Muse Events

Q: I know that most couples spend about a year planning their wedding, but is it ok to start planning a wedding 2 years out?

Yes, it is ok!  Some couples need a longer engagement whether that be for timing purposes (work/school schedule, family happenings, etc.) or for budgetary reasons. So, planning a wedding 2 years out is totally ok.  Having more time just gives you more time to work on each aspect of the wedding without feeling rushed.

There are a few things to keep in mind.  First, there may be vendors you come across, particularly your venue which won’t start taking reservations until a year out.  In addition, while you always want to book reputable vendors, you’ll want to be even more careful when booking 2 years out because you want to make sure that they will still be in business in 2 years.  So, I would be careful of any amateur or newer vendors to the industry.  You may want to wait until you get closer to your wedding date to book those particular vendors.

So, can you plan your wedding that far out?  Of course!  Don’t feel like you have to wait if you’re excited about starting the process.  Go with it and have fun!
