Q: Who do I invite to the rehearsal dinner?
Typically the rehearsal dinner happens after the ceremony rehearsal which most times takes place the day before the wedding. So, the people invited to the rehearsal dinner are usually those involved in the ceremony. This typically includes your immediate families, your wedding party and any additional people who are helping with the ceremony like a friend who is your officiate or a cousin who is playing the guitar.
However, many times couples take this opportunity to invite other special guests that they’d like to spend some extra time with. For example, some couples will invite out of town guests or relatives and/or friends that you are particularly close to. Other couples often invite the significant others of your wedding party so that they aren’t alone. However, be aware that once you start adding in people, the extent of your guest list can get very large very fast in some cases. It’s really up to you who you want to invite, but just be careful not to turn it into another wedding.
Now if you are having a destination wedding, the rules change a bit. Usually, you’ll have activities planned for that week/weekend for your guests and then the dinner ends up being one more activity that is a part of your wedding experience. In this case, many times the couple does invite everyone in order to spend as much time as they can together.
