It’s funny to me how we have special days set aside to do things we should normally be doing, like being thankful.  Actually, if you think about all the special days in the year, they are all about honoring or giving thanks for something.  For example, mother’s day and father’s day are in honor of your parents, 4th of July is honoring our freedom, and Veteran’s day is honoring those who have served and are currently serving to protect us.  As it is Thanksgiving tomorrow we are all reminded of what we are thankful for and I’d like to share what I am thankful for.

When I think about my life, I cannot help but feel thankful for my family and friends.  I am truly blessed to have people in my life who love and support me, who have been there for me in the past and will be there in the future.  I’m thankful for my parents who raised me, took care of me and most importantly continually love me even when they don’t always agree with the choices I make.   I’m thankful for my sisters whose camaraderie results in much cheer and sore cheeks .  I’m thankful for my new husband and the partnership and indescribable love that we share.  I’m thankful for my extended family and my close friends who would do anything for me, even fly all the way to Paris for my destination wedding.  It isn’t easy to find people that understand and love you for who you are and I’m extremely lucky to have that in my life.

It is a bit sad that we need a day to remember to celebrate the people who are important to us and the life that we are lucky to have.  I can’t say that I’m great at always being thankful, but I try to be thankful year round.  It is easy to get caught up in life, so much so that you don’t take the time to step back and look at what you have.  I am guilty of this myself and Thanksgiving is that reminder to forget all the little, petty and stupid worries and just be grateful for all that you have.  It’s a reminder that while we are always pushing for more, it’s never as important as what you already have. Take the time to reflect this week and see all that you have to give thanks for.  I certainly will.

Wishing you all a very happy Thanksgiving!
