If you’ve shared the news, I bet you’re already getting bombarded with questions. And as a result, you’re starting to think about your wedding. When you’re ready to start planning your wedding, the inevitable question you’ll face is what do you do? Where do you start?
Your first instinct will be to start searching the internet or to talk to friends. But, this is definitely NOT where you want to start. So, where should you start planning your wedding instead?
Instead of looking outward, you need to look inward.
Here’s what I mean: Instead of looking outward for direction from friends, magazines, blogs and Pinterest, you want to look inward at yourself.
You want to start with you and your (now) fiancé.
Because before you even begin to think about venues or colors or favors, you have to understand where you are, what you feel, what you want and what’s important to you. And then most importantly, why.
You have to take a deep dive into the what and why behind your wedding before you can even hope to plan it. Because understanding this part will influence everything else you do.
Think about it like a new bookcase or a new vacuum. I actually just got a new vacuum cleaner myself. It didn’t come fully assembled, so I had to put it together. So, I followed the instructions and 5 clicks later, my vacuum was working!
There was a particular order because the pieces wouldn’t have fit together if I had done it differently. The order matters! Without it, I could have fumbled around and potentially figured it out. Or perhaps ended up with a ruined new vacuum because I stuffed the pieces in the wrong places.
So, as you start to embark on your wedding planning journey, remember to start with yourself. Ignore all of the other stuff. I know it’s hard, but you and your fiancé are the most important part of your wedding. You’re the reason for your wedding! So, make sure you start there before you start looking at anything else.
And if you’ve already started planning your wedding, it’s not too late. Stop now and take the time now to make sure what you’re planning and the decisions you’ve made are in line with you.
Want to know how to look inward and what comes after this step?
So you can keep enjoying your engagement and also keep all your hair.
